Day #205 in A Year of Thanks:
I’m thankful the ER could take care of Grams today.
Just as I was wrapping up the end of my workday, Grams came into my back office and stated she was having a lot of trouble breathing, and she wanted me to take her to the emergency room that I’d gone to in January for the second nebulizer treatment I had for COVID. So, I took her, and they took her in right away. The ECG and chest x-ray came back normal, and we soon got confirmation that it was an asthma attack, for which she didn’t have inhalers, because her asthma is usually so mild (she hasn’t had an asthma attack in years). However, this entire week has been a mix of on-and-off coughing spells and her breathing worsening. We soon figured out what was causing the asthma flare-up. This started last Friday, when she worked on the blue spruce tree in our backyard, before a stranger arrived the next day and finished the job. We knew she was allergic to the long-needle pine evergreen trees, but we didn’t think Grams was also allergic to the blue spruce, as she has always worked around that tree in our yard, and never had a reaction until now. We just assumed it was her seasonal allergies acting up.
So, Grams was given a nebulizer breathing treatment with some Prednisone, and she was discharged in about three hours. That’s what we love about that ER. It’s the place to go for something like this. If we went to the other hospital down the street, we’d still be in the waiting room, waiting to be seen, because it’s always jam-packed! Knowing what we know now about the blue spruce being the reason for her asthma flare-ups, I’m even more thankful that the Lord sent that stranger to us! It was perfect divine timing. I’ll be picking up Grams’ new inhaler and medication tomorrow morning as soon as the pharmacy opens, so she’ll have it on standby moving forward. Thank You so much for everything, Abba!
