“Too often, we don’t give ourselves credit for the good choices we’ve made. Remember to give yourself credit for the things you’re doing well.”—Matthew Clark, PhD, Mayo Clinic
Sometimes, we dwell a bit too much on the mistakes we’ve made in our past, and this kind of thinking can put us in a negative feedback loop. Next thing you know, we’re hypercritical of ourselves, or falling into so much negative thinking that it can be a challenge to see the light. I know I’ve been through this spiral, and I hate it. I know that there is a lesson to be learned from the mistakes we’ve made, and that can help us grow. However, we must also remember to give ourselves credit for all the good choices we make. It’s a delicate balancing act that requires grace, humility, and patience. If you find yourself dwelling too much on mistakes, learn from their lessons, and then shift your thinking to some things that you’ve done that are good. Move forward with kindness, humility, and honor from the heart—not only for yourself, but for everyone around you.
