Day #31 in A Year of Thanks

Day #31 in A Year of Thanks:
I’m thankful for new opportunities to create more Italian connections.

My first phone call at work this morning was all about a trip to Italy (not mine, but a client’s). In my line of work, which is separate from my writing career, overseas trips aren’t a common subject matter, but they do pop up from time to time. It’s little signs like this that I don’t go looking for that come to me all the time lately. Even during my first ER visit with COVID, my doctor was Italian. I can’t make this stuff up if I tried!

That phone call quite literally made my day, though. It felt like a sweet, tender reminder from Abba that my time with Italy is coming soon. I’ll get to spend it first with my dear friend Laura to witness and celebrate the most precious and beautiful day of her life. I have a feeling I won’t want to leave Italy after I visit, so will I be planning a move there by that point? Who knows. I’m excited to explore what Abba has in store for me!

Whenever I get a sign like the two I mentioned above, I can’t help but be thankful that I recently rejoined an exclusive language exchange community where I’m creating new connections and building friendships with Italians worldwide. Most are native to Italy, and since there are so many people in the community from every region of Italy, it’s a valuable and beautiful opportunity for me to gain exposure to the language and get to know the local culture before I head over there. I also help them with their English language goals, as they’ve joined the community to improve their English, and I get to share the American culture with them. I love it!
