Day #20 in A Year of Thanks:
I’m thankful for this three-day weekend.
I did not know what to expect for this three-day weekend, but I certainly wasn’t expecting it to have so many ups and downs like a rollercoaster. Friday down, Saturday up, Sunday down, Monday up. After Grams was sent to the hospital by ambulance, I went into one violent coughing spell after another, and it persisted all day and all night. Then, I returned to being unable to keep food and fluids down because of all the severe coughing. It felt like my head would explode with how hard the coughing spells were.
None of the home remedies worked. I was weak and frustrated, so I made a virtual appointment this morning. They prescribed me an Albuterol inhaler, Azithromycin, and another cough suppressant medication, and what a big difference it’s made, like night and day, and I’m only on day one! I still have some coughing spells, but they’re becoming less frequent and not as severe. My head no longer feels like it’s going to explode. I can eat food and drink fluids again to retain my hydration. My energy is also increasing, though I suspect it’ll be some time before I return to being a fully charged energizer bunny. I am also thankful the pharmacy was open for me to be able to get this medicine so that I could start getting some relief.
As for Grams, they admitted her into a room at the hospital. They are keeping her on oxygen and giving her a six-day COVID treatment regimen. However, it’s not been confirmed yet if she will be in the hospital the entire time. Under careful observation, they noticed her heart rate was slightly elevated, and poor Grams didn’t have a good day today with all the a-fib going on. So, I’m also thankful they’re keeping a close eye on her.
