Day #14 in A Year of Thanks

Day #14 in A Year of Thanks:
I’m thankful for the Gift of Creativity.

Aside from the song I wrote the other day, I cannot remember the last time I tuned into the poetic side of my creativity. I typically associate poetry with romance, and my heart was pretty closed off to romance for quite a while. However, as mentioned in a previous post, Abba has been working on my heart, layer by layer, and now I find myself tuning into the sweeter side of my creativity (thank You, Abba!). Below is a new poem I wrote after waking yesterday.

I first shared it with Laura, one of my dearest friends who is a native of northern Italy. The poem foreshadows her special event later this year, which she graciously invited me to, and I accepted. She loved the poem, so I’m sharing it below with you. Despite my lack of Italian heritage, this poem highlights my magnetic pull toward Italy, which I can no longer deny or ignore. There is just something so special about the Italian culture and its people that draws out a whole new level of tenderness in me. It makes me feel more myself and more free to be my authentic self. With all the signs the Lord has shown me over the past few months, I firmly believe that my future is tied to Italy somehow. As I patiently wait for the Lord to reveal more details for me down the road in His perfect timing, I’ll continue to trust in Him while I do what I do every day, and I hope you enjoy this poem.

Italy, oh, Italy
I hear you calling so perfectly crystal clear.
Your lovely melody is ringing loud this year.
Try as I might, I just can’t seem to get you off my mind.
Oh, how I long to be with you and your beautiful kind.

Italy, oh, Italy
Show me the lovely, blessed union of two soulmates,
And together we’ll eat, drink, dance and celebrate.
Show me the beating heart of your cities and rolling hills,
Your presence is so near to me that it gives me the chills.

Italy, my Italy
I’m waiting for the day I can soak up your sunshine.
Call me yours because, in my heart, you’re already mine.
When I come to you, please show me what to do,
Because my heart just can’t stop singing for you.
